A Rose Perspective

Have you ever heard the phrase “see life through rose colored glasses”? Well, that phrase isn’t just a pretty saying, it carries a deep meaning and depth with it.

Rose is a soft color, typically associated with love and joy. The light pink rose itself brings a feeling of grace and happiness, according to the blog site fiftyflowers.com in their article of Rose Color Meanings: 12 Shades and What They Symbolize by Liza Roeser.

Because of the sentiment behind this rose color, it brings a positive connotation to life. According to The Color Psychology of Pink by Kendra Cherry, “pink is refreshing”. She says, “pink makes me think of springtime flowers and all things fresh and new”. Though that may be how she feels, Cherry also states that every color has a different effect on the human condition and part of that is highly due to the person’s influences throughout their lifetime.

Also according to Cherry, in another article of hers, Color Psychology: Does it Affect How You Feel?, she explains, “certain colors have been associated with increased blood pressure, increased metabolism, and eyestrain”. She also says that the warmer colors such as red and others near that color on the spectrum, supply people with “feelings of warmth and comfort” but also with “feelings of anger and hostility”. Because rose is not a deep color like red or orange, it doesn’t have a bad connotation attached to it. It primarily exudes joy in people.

So when people use the phrase, “see life through rose colored glasses”, they don’t necessarily mean to see the world in a vibrant shade of pink, but to see the beauty and joy in life and all it has to offer. Though there are so many things going on in the world that aren’t as happy as the color rose, we have to find the good things within the hard times, therefore, finding the rose amidst the thorns.
